Peggy along with her husband David moved to Shepherdstown, WV from Alexandria, VA in 2018 when they built and opened Sundogs Bed and Breakfast. This eco-friendly B&B is located on 46 acres just outside of town; restoring the woodlands and meadows and creating sustainable pollinator-friendly gardens has been their top priority. Peggy spent her professional career in horticulture, managing both private and public gardens including Dumbarton Oaks, The American Horticultural Society River Farm, and as the Garden Manager at the George Washington Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens. Peggy’s design talents center on using native plants to create gardens that focus on pollinator habitat and sustainability. Her passion for the natural world can be seen not only at Sundogs but also in community plantings in the area including the new Shepherdstown Public Library where she was the lead designer in the community effort to create habitat gardens for pollinators birds and people. Peggy is active in many volunteer endeavors including fostering rescue puppies and serving on the steering committee for the Town Run Watershed Group. Peggy continues to provide garden designs, consultations, and presentations to promote life spaces for the native insects and birds, and to teach and inspire others to create their own much-needed wildlife habitats in their own backyards.
