Join Herb Peddicord for a winter tree-identification field trip on the Ferry Hill Trail across from Shepherdstown. This is a family-friendly event that will teach you how to identify trees by such factors as their shapes, branching habits, twigs and buds, and bark.
Participants will meet at 10:00 a.m. at Ferry Hill. Ferry Hill is just across the bridge (Route 34) from Shepherdstown heading towards Sharpsburg, take the first left turn. From Sharpsburg, it will be your last right turn off of Route 34 before going over the bridge into Shepherdstown.
Trip leader, Herb Peddicord, is from Ohio. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry resource management from the University of Idaho. Retired from the WV Division of Forestry, Herb now has his own Forestry Management consultant business called “Erb n’ Woods”. He is married with three daughters and lives in Martinsburg, WV.
Those who participate should be sure to dress warmly and wear sturdy footwear.
The walk will start at the Ferry Hill mansion, walking the trails around the mansion grounds. Most of the event will take place on level ground, making the majority of the event accessible for everyone.
