Wellness Walk at Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve
Tuesday, January 7, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join Ellen Murphy for a lively walk!
PVAS Host: Ellen Murphy
Free and open to the public. All ages are welcome, though youth must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and limited to 15 participants.
Join us for our monthly Wellness Walks—an opportunity to connect with nature, get moving, and enjoy the great outdoors! Winter is the season for storytelling, so bring a personal story—whether funny, sad, or something in between—to share as we walk the scenic trails of Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve. Ducks and geese usually hang out in the marsh, so bring binoculars if you’d like to do some birdwatching! After our walk, we may warm up with some hot chocolate. Dress warmly and come ready for a peaceful afternoon of stories, exploration, and wintertime connection.
- Walking Distance: Approximately 2 miles or less.
- Pace/Activities: Moderate (steady but able to maintain a conversation)
- Exposure: Partial shade. Some areas of full sun.
- Terrain: Mowed grass/earthen trail. Little to no elevation change
- Restroom: No restrooms are available.
- Parking/Where to Meet: Meet at the parking lot. Ellen will send a email to registered participants with more details.
- What to Bring: Dress for the weather, bring water, and wear sturdy shoes! Bring a story to share and a mug for hot chocolate!
About our Host: Ellen is retired from PVAS (and a former National Park Ranger and Girl Scout Camp Director). With PVAS, she taught the Watershed Program, taught general environmental education for PK-5th grades, and directed Audubon Discovery Camp for 11 years. She has been a Master Naturalist since 2007. Her favorite word is “Look” and my favorite place is Yankauer Nature Preserve. She and her husband Kevin have been married for 39 years, residents of WV for almost 30 years, and “parents” to a series of pound puppies (currently #8 and 9).
