Visit to Successful Purple Martin Colony
Saturday, June 2, 2018 @ 6:00 am - 8:00 am
PVAS Host: Chip Hussion
Stop by and see Mr. Hussion’s active and successful Purple Martin Colony.
There should be some recent hatchlings along with many eggs. Adults will be flying around feeding and greeting visitors.
Please feel free to stop by anytime between 10 am – 12 noon on Saturday, June 2.
Mr. Hussion has 26 nesting cavities for the martins on 3 separate poles as well as several other nesting cavities which usually house a handful of tree swallow pairs, a couple blue bird pairs and some wrens.
Come with your questions – Chip Hussion will be on hand providing answers and stories.
This event is open to the public and everyone is welcome regardless of their birding skills, however registration is strongly encouraged.
Participants should meet at Mr. Hussion’s house. His address is 95 Terrace View, Charles Town. For GPS users that this doesn’t appear for, try 103 Eastland Terrace. He is located in the Eastland Subdivision off Old Cave Rd which runs east off Rt 340 about 1 mile north of Washington High School. Please note that Terrace View is the 3rd Eastland street and is to the right off Old Cave Rd (up a hill) when coming from 340.
Participants should dress appropriately for the prevailing weather and bring along drinking water.
Binoculars will be available for anyone who needs them.
For more information, please feel free to contact Krista Hawley at adultprograms@potomacaudubon.orgor 703-303-1026 or for questions regarding directions, please call Chip Hussion at 304-400-7708.
