Join us for a walk to see and enjoy the spring ephemeral wildflowers at the Trillium Trail!
PVAS Host: Kathy Bilton
Free and open to the public. All ages are welcome, though youth must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and limited to 10 participants.
Join wildflower enthusiast Kathy Bilton for a spring ephemeral wildflower walk at the Trillium Trail in the Thompson Wildlife Management Area, about an hour from Shepherdstown. You can learn more about the trail here.
Participants will meet at the Trillium Trail Parking area. Click here for a Google Maps link. Be sure to go to this exact location, as there are several parking areas/listings associated with the Thompson Wildlife Management Area, which can be far away from each other.
This walk is scheduled to coincide with the famous and expansive bloom of the large-flowered trillium. Participants might also see other wildflowers, such as the yellow Lady Slipper.
Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Children are welcome with adult accompaniment. An entire walk may take up to two hours, but participants may leave the group and turn back at any time. Please leave pets at home. And thank you for leaving the wildflowers for all to enjoy!
Please note that there is a fee to park in this area. A daily access permit is$4 per person. You can learn more about and purchase an access permit online here: https://dwr.virginia.gov/licenses/
We recommend bringing a hiking stick/trekking pole.
