Master Naturalist Leaders: Diane Fletcher and Phil Folk
This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required and limited to 20 people. Children are welcome with adult accompaniment. Please leave pets at home.
Spring has sprung and the wildflowers are blooming! Join Diane Fletcher and Phil Folk in a quest for the blooms of spring at Dargan Bend in Washington County, MD. The hike will start at the boat launch parking area at mile marker 64.8 on the C&O Canal trail. In addition to the wildflower identification, Diane will share background information on vernal pools and the community science project monitoring them in West Virginia. Participants will also be provided with a scavenger hunt list, adding some competition to the hike. Phil promises a surprise along the trail that will amaze the curious and perhaps surprise others that have visited the area before. Bringing cameras and nature ID apps such as INaturalist are encouraged. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy footwear, come prepared for flying insects and ticks, and bring sunscreen or rain gear for the weather. Extreme weather such as heavy rain and severe thunderstorms may cancel the event.
Parking may be limited so carpooling is encouraged.
