PVMN Continuing Education Eligible
Join local arborist and forest therapy guide Shawn Walker to learn approaches to recognizing trees in winter, with some trees giving away clues as they get ready for spring. The pace will be slow to moderate and the trail will be easy to moderately difficult.
Eidolon Nature Preserve is located on Sidling Hill along Orleans Rd. in Great Cacapon, WV. The entrance is marked by a teal metal gate, participants can park along the road, or if the gate is open, there is ample parking inside the preserve.
Participants will meet at 1:30 p.m. and hike around the preserve identifying trees. The preserve is very hilly and has well marked trails. Please wear appropriate footwear, bring trekking poles if desired, and be prepared for variable weather.
The 354 acre Eidolon Nature Preserve is the largest PVAS preserve. It includes a mixture of hardwood forest, including thick groves of mountain laurel and spectacular views. The trip will involve walking between 1-2 miles on narrow trails that climb up and down hillsides. The hiking terrain is moderately strenuous, but the pace will be slow.
Those who participate should be sure to dress warmly and wear sturdy footwear.
