This event is a field trip offered for members of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society. If you are interested in becoming a member, there is an option provided in the registration form below.

PVMN Continuing Education Re-Cert Eligible

The NCTC Archives has half a million objects that tell the centuries old history of wildlife conservation ranging from Rachel Carson’s typewriter to a black-footed ferret brought back from the edge of extinction.

Mark Madison, who will be leading this guided tour, is the Historian for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Chief of the Branch of Heritage and Partnerships at NCTC. In that role, he helps manage the 500,000 item USFWS Museum/Archives and some of our remaining youth partnerships like the Directorate Fellows Program (DFP) and the Native Youth Community Adaptation and Youth Leadership Congress (NYCALC). Mark has worked for USFWS for 21 years. Prior to that, he was a professor at Harvard University and the University of Melbourne (Australia). He also spent 3 years doing tropical reforestation in the Philippines as a Peace Corps volunteer. His main sport is fly-fishing, where his lack of skill has ensured a rich population of fish in our native Potomac waters.

After the guided tour, lunch is available for purchase in the beautiful dining hall at NCTC.
