Wednesday, February 12, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Presenter: Katelyn (KC) Walters, PVAS’s Land Manager
PVMN Continuing Education Eligible
This event is free and open to the public.
Join us for the February monthly program where our land manager, KC, will break down PVAS’s Habitat Stewardship programs. The three programs, Grassland Birds Initiative, Protected Pollinator Patch, and Wildlife Habitat aim to help landowners learn about and implement best management practices on their own properties. She will cover the primary objectives of each program, the benefits of utilizing best management practices and the steps to enroll your property. At the end of the program, KC will give an insiders scoop for this year’s Native Plant Sale, including a discussion about the benefits of native plants for wildlife.
Katelyn (KC) Walters, a Shepherdstown native, is our Conservation and Land Manager. KC is a Shepherd alumna, and holds a M.S. in Biology, with a focus in forest ecology, from James Madison University. Her master’s thesis evaluated the long-term effectiveness of treating hemlock trees for hemlock woolly adelgid infestation in Shenandoah National Park. During her college education, she interned with The Conservation Fund: Freshwater Institute and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. After graduation, she worked with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in southeastern Louisiana where she served as a forestry technician and became a certified Wildland Firefighter. Before joining the PVAS team, KC worked with Sustainable Solutions LLC as the Lead Natural Resources and GIS Technician. KC enjoys riding horses, hanging out with her critters (a dog, cat, and several chicky ladies), and stewarding the natural resources on her own property.
This program is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
