Potomac Valley Audubon Society’s Monthly Program: Gently Down the Stream: Protecting Our Waters from Plastic Pollution

This in-person program is free and open to the public.
The Potomac Valley Audubon Society welcomes Julie Prevratil and Lindsay Amsberry where they will discuss plastic pollution in our waterways.
Join PVAS for our November Monthly Program where Julie and Lindsay will talk about the many sources of plastic pollution– from litter to our washing machines– and how it affects water; from local streams all the way to the deepest parts of the ocean. Come join the discussion on what can be done.
Topics also include:
-History of plastic usage
-Effect on marine animals
-Efforts of organizations
-What we as individuals can do
Lindsay Amsberry is a biology instructor at Frederick Community College and has taught courses including general biology, environmental science, and ecology. Her field biology research experience includes invasive plants in salt marshes in Rhode Island, rocky intertidal communities in Maine, and plant-animal interactions in Montana, Alabama, and Costa Rica.
Julie Prevratil studied Psychology and Biology in St. Petersburg, Florida and has worked with many different marine animals including river otters, sea lions, and dolphins. Part of her work has been teaching the public about human effects on wild marine life.
