The Potomac Valley Audubon Society welcomes Abigail and Emily as they present “Abby & Emily’s Chesapeake Bay Experience”.
Join PVAS’s AmeriCorps Abby and Emily for “Abby & Emily’s Chesapeake Bay Experience”
Recent graduates, Abby and Emily, each had unique experiences learning and working on the Chesapeake Bay during college. They are joining forces to share their knowledge and expertise during this virtual presentation.
- Abby’s experience during undergrad included research of salt marsh ecology and trawling in the mouth of the bay for fish identification. She will be showing and discussing photos of the research she conducted at Ragged Island Wildlife Management Area. In addition, Abby will show and discuss photos of the trawling she took part in and the various species she learned to identify.
- Emily will share her experiences of going to school on the Chesapeake Bay and traveling around it with the National Park Service. She will show and discuss pictures of interesting and important places around the Bay as well as discus recreation opportunities and a general overview and fun facts about the Bay.
Abigail is serving one year as an Americorp volunteer with PVAS as an Environmental Educator. Last spring she graduated from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia with a B.S. in Organismal and Environmental Biology. She has enjoyed every minute of her time with PVAS thus far, from assisting the Lead Educator & Naturalist Amy Moore with educational programs to shadowing the Conservation & Land Manager KC Walters. This opportunity has solidified her passion for environmental education and conservation, and she hopes to find a career in this field after her service has ended thanks to the wonderful guidance from the PVAS staff!
Emily Sperling graduated in 2019 from Salisbury University with a degree in Environmental Studies and a minor in Geography. She is one of the year-long Americorps volunteers doing Environmental Education. She is excited to teach and learn all she can. She loves the Chesapeake Bay and grew up around it. She likes to go horseback riding, running, hiking and boating and is excited to have the opportunity to keep learning and teaching about our natural world.
