Presenter: Katelyn (KC) Walters, Conservation and Land Manager for PVAS
PVMN Re-Cert Eligible
Join the Potomac Valley Audubon Society on Wednesday, October 10th at 7:00 PM for our regular monthly program.
In June of 2018, KC went to summer camp for adults in Hog Island, Maine. Hog Island is a bird lovers paradise where adults and children have once in a lifetime experiences. In this program, KC will share her photos and stories from her adventures. Prepare to hear first hand tales of the bird preservation process, bird banding, the Hog Island food and, of course, puffins!
Katelyn (KC) Walters, a Shepherdstown native, is the Conservation and Land Manager for PVAS. KC is a Shepherd alumna, and holds a M.S. in Biology, with a focus in forest ecology, from James Madison University. Her master’s thesis evaluated the long-term effectiveness of treating hemlock trees for hemlock woolly adelgid infestation in Shenandoah National Park. During her college education, she worked as an intern for the Freshwater Institute and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. After graduation, she interned with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in southeastern Louisiana where she served as a forestry technician and became a certified Wildland Firefighter. Before joining PVAS, KC worked with Sustainable Solutions LLC as the Lead Natural Resources and GIS Technician. KC enjoys riding horses, spending time with her pets, and working on her growing farm, which she considers her “fifth preserve.”
This program is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
