Our State Mammal: The American Black Bear

Join Allen for an evening learning about West Virginia’s state mammal!
PVAS Host: Allen Miller
Free and open to the public. All ages are welcome, though youth must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and limited to 15 participants.
PVMN Continuing Education Credit Eligible
Come for a fun evening leaning about the American black bears, West Virginia’s state mammal, with Master Naturalist Allen Miller! Allen will share fun facts about these wonderful creatures and will bring a pelt, skull and claw for you to feel. Please bring stories from your life of any black bear encounters you have had. We will also play 2 black bear-themed games!
- Walking Distance: Little to no walking.
- Restroom: Indoor, flushing restrooms will be available.
- Parking/Where to Meet: Cool Spring Preserve has about 20 parking spaces. The group will assemble inside the Case Nature Center (red building).
- What to Bring: Bring with you any encounters you may have had with a black bear to share.
About our Host: Allen Miller was a teacher for 35 years where he spent a large chunk of that time teaching science. Allen is a Morgan County WV residence and currently, a seasonal naturalist at Cacapon Resort State Park. He is a Master Naturalist member in the 2021 cohort. Allen will be guiding the activity and then we all can learn together.
