Embrace Autumn’s arrival with Carolyn’s afternoon workshop; In-depth Field Journaling.
Deepen your field journal practice with two classic drawing techniques, simple visual cues, and combining the visual with words. The drawing techniques help you relax your mind so you can record observations more accurately. Results can be hilarious, yet they reveal details you don’t ordinarily see. Use visual prompts to decipher animals, plants, and landscapes. Experiment with organizing a field journal page before, during, and after field observations.
This event will be led by Carolyn Duckworth, a professional writer for the National Park Service and a trained artist. Carolyn has spent decades studying and perfecting the practice of keeping naturalist field journals.
This class will begin with a brief indoor session, then will move outdoors (weather permitting). Cool Spring’s easy trails and gathering spaces are ideal for working on your own field journal.
Bring a small (approximately 5 x 7″) sketchbook or notebook, preferably with no lines, a pencil (#2) and a pen of your choice. PVAS will have some extra supplies available for use.
Dress for the weather, wear comfortable walking shoes and bring along some drinking water.
Carolyn is offering a morning introductory workshop prior to this in-depth journaling session. If you are planning on attending the morning session, please bring along a packed lunch. If the weather permits, there are ample places to enjoy your picnic lunch on the preserve. There is a refrigerator and microwave available for those that would like to store or heat their lunch.
Everyone is welcome to attend this workshop, regardless of their journaling skills. Children may attend when accompanied by an adult and registration is required.
