Interested in Citizen Science and butterflies? This is the perfect opportunity for you!
Join Joanne on Saturday, August 25 as she takes you through her step by step process of Citizen Science Butterfly Research both in the classroom and in the field.
Joanne’s presentation will cover how the citizen science project of “Butterflies in Season” went from just identifying the butterflies at Lauritzen Gardens to a project that involves many different elements such as: How many total butterflies and species there are in the gardens, how many butterflies and species are in each garden, what plants the butterflies are nectaring on, when are the butterflies at their peak, how weather affects the number of butterflies, and how the numbers of each species compares from year to year.
In the classroom Joanne will go over the objectives, how the project has evolved, some of the results, surprises, types of spreadsheets, field guides, as well as how and when to butterfly.
Joanne will then take to the field to provide visuals and hands-on learning about her Citizen Science project and guidelines on how to implement your own.
