Monthly Mystery Bird Walk at Claymont Retreat Center
Saturday, July 20 @ 7:30 am - 10:30 am
Join Bill Telfair and Hardy Mason for a morning bird walk at Claymont Retreat Center!
PVAS Host: Bill Telfair, Hardy Mason
Free and open to the public. For ages 8 and older. All youth must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and limited to 15 participants.
Explore the bird life with others at the Claymont Retreat Center! Both large, older trees near the Claymont Mansion and younger trees and shrubs along the North Fork of the Bullskin Run and Claymont wetland provide excellent habitat for bird life! The group can also expect to see a rare native tree – the bigtooth aspen.
Click here to see a list of birds the group is likely to see. Recently at this location, meadowlarks have been spotted and young fledglings have been observed making noise and taking short flights!
- Walking Distance: Approximately 1 mile
- Pace: Leisurely (meandering, many breaks to stop and observe)
- Exposure: Partial shade. Some areas of full sun.
- Terrain: A mix of hard ground and mowed grass. Mostly flat, some gentle slopes.
- Restroom: No restrooms are available.
- Parking: The group will meet and begin the walk on Mansion Drive at the circle before the gates just after crossing the Bullskin. GOOGLE MAPS LINK. The walk will begin in the sunnier area through the meadow in the cooler morning hours and will move to the shadier areas close to the Mansion as it warms up throughout the morning.
- What to Bring: Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, and bring water.
