Free and open to the public. Beginner birders welcome! This program is for adults only. Registration is required and limited to 15 participants.
Join Beth Poole and Carol Winckler for the second of a new bird walk series: Monthly Mystery Bird Walks. The location of the bird walk will change from month to month – the “mystery”!
March’s bird walk will be at Sweet Run State Park! Sweet Run State Park is the newest Virginia State Park, originally the BRCES (Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship) and is a site that has many different habitats: fields, pond, streams, woodlands, a large old growth forest. This is a wonderful park to see a variety of birds. In March, it may be likely for us to see swallows, bluebirds, and waterthrushes. There is also a chance of seeing Eastern Phoebes, Tree Swallows, Brown Thrashers, Brown-headed Cowbirds, Common Grackles, Fish Crows, Louisiana Waterthrushs, and Chipping Sparrows.
Please note that Sweet Run State Park plans to begin charging an admission fee in early 2024. It is unknown if the fee will be in effect during this program, so please plan to be prepared with a $10 admission fee or a VA State Park Pass.
Learn more about the park here. This walk will take place at a slow pace as the group quietly observes the birds together.
