September is the month that most monarchs will migrate through our region on the way to Mexico where they will spend the winter. The Monarch Alliance, a program of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society, is excited to offer this monarch tagging & bird walk at Claymont Mansion.
Join Chuck and Tracy on September 22, at the historic Claymont Mansion, at 8:30 am.
Participants should meet Tracy and Chuck on the Claymont entrance road at the gate where a wetland meets the access driveway. From there, Tracy and Chuck will teach and help guide participants on the process of tagging monarchs and bird watching.
The entrance to the historic Claymont Mansion is located at 667 Huyett Road and is marked by a street sign that says “Claymont Mansion”. From Charles Town, take 340 South towards Berryville for approximately 4 miles. Take the exit labeled Augustine Avenue (on right). Then take an immediate left onto Huyett Rd. and go 1.8 miles. You will then see the Claymont entrance road.
The Monarch Discovery Day events will be free and open to anyone with an interest. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.
In the event of cancellation, notice will be posted on the PVAS site by 9 p.m. the night before the event.
