Microscopes are wonderful tools to help explore the natural world that we regularly would never see. Unfortunately, they are often inaccessible to most people, and beyond that, they are rarely available for free exploration and study.
At Cool Spring Nature Preserve on March 12 and 15th, we will change that and engage in an adult microscope night of discovery! This event will be based on previous youth and all ages events and will be geared towards adults who want the opportunity to learn how to use and explore with a variety of microscopes from dissecting, to compound, to even digital. Participants will even learn how to make their own slides, learn some microscope history and have resources available to use to engage yourself and others with microscopes on your own. This event will be capped at 14 participants and will be in the evening (6:30-8:30 pm) to accommodate working individuals.
This session will take place at the Case Nature Center at Cool Spring Preserve, which is wheelchair accessible. Seating is available for most, if not all of this session.
About our Host: Will has served at Potomac Valley Audubon Society since May 2023. Prior to this, he worked as an urban forestry surveyor and as a herbarium technician. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University in Literature and Letters, minoring in Forestry and Biology. He is looking forward to storytelling during family programs as well as fostering further love for the outdoors. Will is especially excited to learn and serve with PVAS’s staff and volunteers during the 2024 service year. Will is relatively new to the area (Native to Western Maryland) and is always looking for cool new places to hike and camp.
