Winter Nature Walks are an excellent way to get outside and enjoy some winter fresh air, and Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve offers many treasures this time of year!
Participants will meet in the parking area at the north end of the Marsh at 8:00 a.m.
The preserve is located in Back Creek Valley, one-half mile south of Shanghai, on the east side of Back Creek Valley Road (County Route 7).
The preserve is only 46 acres in size, so the distances to be walked are not great. However, the terrain will include wet meadows and marshlands, as well as dry areas, so waterproof footwear is strongly recommended. Please wear gear that will allow you to stand comfortably in one area for small amounts of time as you look for and observe birds and other animals.
The trip will not be cancelled unless there is greater than 8 inches of snow on the ground – so come prepared to walk on snowy trails.
Possible bird species to be sighted include raptors and waterfowl.
Participants should dress appropriately for the prevailing weather and bring water.
