Introduction to Woodworking and Nature Playspace Workday
Monday, January 29 @ 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Join AmeriCorps Service Member Will O’Boyle for at Cool Spring Preserve/Case Nature Center!
PVAS Host: Will O’Boyle
Free and open to the public. High School and Older Registration is required and limited to 10 participants.
Join AmeriCorps service member Will O’Boyle for an afternoon of learning and service! Learn primitive woodworking skills with non-electric and non-motorized equipment (such as a crosscut saw, hand auger, chisel and more!) to process raw wood into usable products. We will build a small (6’x6’x6’) cabin at the Nature Playspace at Cool Spring Preserve using traditional building styles and techniques as would have traditionally been done in central Appalachia and West Virginia.
About our Host: Will served at Potomac Valley Audubon Society since May 2023. Prior to this, he worked as an urban forestry surveyor and as a herbarium technician. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University in Literature and Letters, minoring in Forestry and Biology. He is looking forward to storytelling during family programs as well as fostering further love for the outdoors. Will is especially excited to learn and serve with PVAS’s staff and volunteers during the 2024 service year. Will is relatively new to the area (Native to Western Maryland) and is always looking for cool new places to hike and camp.
