This event is free and open to the public, however, registration is strongly encouraged. Please register below.
PVAS bird expert, Deb Hale, is leading a Hawk Watching trip in the Bolivar Heights section of the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park on Wednesday, September 19.
The trip will begin at 9:00 AM and last two to three hours.
The event is free and open to anyone with an interest. Children will be welcome. Binoculars will be available for anyone who needs them.
Participants will meet at the Bolivar Heights parking area.
Directions: from the Route 340 traffic light at the entrance to the National Park, turn north onto Washington Street and follow it for about 1/4 mile, then turn north again (left) onto Whitman Avenue; the parking area is at the top of the hill.
The Hawk Watch will take place in one area near the parking lot, watching for and counting the hawks from that general spot. The group will mostly be stationary, watching for the migration of raptors overhead, starting around mid-morning, the majority primarily being Broad-winged hawks, but also including Red-shouldered, Red-tailed, Cooper’s and Sharp-shinned hawks, Osprey, Bald Eagles and Common Ravens, too.
Those who are not able to attend some of our longer birding hikes may enjoy this opportunity to participate in this watch as it does not require much walking.
Participants should wear sturdy footwear, dress appropriately for prevailing weather conditions, and bring along water and insect repellent.
For more information, please contact Deb Hale at debhale72@gmail.com or 304-535-1528.
