Hawk Watch
Wednesday, November 7, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
PVAS Trip Leader: Sandy Sagalkin
The Potomac Valley Audubon Society and the Washington County (MD) Bird Club are co-sponsoring a hawk watch at Maryland’s Washington Monument State Park on South Mountain on Wednesday, November 7, 2018.
Meet Sandy Sagalkin, trip leader, at the upper parking lot of the State Park at 10:30. The watch will go until Noon, however participants are welcome to stay longer if they wish.
This trip should offer good opportunities to view these magnificent birds in large numbers during their annual fall migration.
This event is during the period of the annual fall hawk migration, and the Washington Monument park offers an excellent vantage point to view these magnificent birds as they wend their way south for the winter.
These hawk watches are free and open to anyone with an interest. Children are welcome, however need to be accompanied by an adult.
Registration is strongly encouraged.
Participants should wear sturdy footwear, dress appropriately for the prevailing weather conditions and bring along drinking water and insect repellent. Binoculars will be available for anyone who needs them.
Hawk-watching is very weather sensitive because these birds do not fly in rain or snow. In addition, if the wind is coming from the south, the event will be canceled. If it is certain that weather will force cancellation of any particular watch, those who have pre-registered will be notified of that cancellation by email no later than 6:00 p.m. the evening before.
Please contact trip leader Sandy Sagalkin at sandy.sagalkin@gmail.com or 240-291-6465 with any questions you may have.
