September is the Harvest Moon! If the sky is clear, we will hike by the light of the full moon along the trails at Cool Spring Preserve. If the evening is cloudy, we will still enjoy an evening stroll as a group. Regardless of the weather, we will enjoy the unique sights, sounds and smells of the nocturnal world together! Please note that Cool Spring Preserve is normally open only from dawn to dusk, but is accessible at night through special nighttime events like these.
- Walking Distance: 1-1.5 miles
- Pace: Moderate – steady but able to maintain a conversation. The group will make several stops along the way to regroup and to discuss interesting things we are noticing or thinking about!
- Exposure: Partial shade. Some areas of full exposure/clear view of the sky.
- Terrain: Hard ground/hiking trail in some areas, mowed grass in other areas. Gentle slopes/rolling hills
- Restroom: Port-a-Pottys will be available.
- Parking/Where to Meet: Participants should meet at the back deck (just down from the parking lot) of the Nature Center.
- What to Bring: Sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. The group will walk by moonlight as much as possible, but bring a flashlight in case it is needed.
