PVAS’s annual family picnic, Fireflies, Fiddles & Frogs, will be held at Cool Spring Preserve this year. We hope you and your family will join us! You’ll find a registration form at the bottom of the page.

Put everyone in the car and head out to the preserve on Wednesday, July 10th beginning at 6 p.m. The event will run until dark, so we can see the fireflies emerge. If you’re a PVAS member, it’s just $15 for the carload. Non-member pricing is $20 per carload. Please be sure to register beforehand to help us with parking logistics.

Pack your own picnic, throw in a blanket or chairs, and come enjoy your dinner while listening to some fiddle tunes. You’ll be joined by old friends and new!

After you enjoy your picnic, you and your family can wander the preserve, or enjoy the fun activities awaiting you. Our plans include finding critters in Bullskin Run, exploring the new Nature Playspace, craft activities, games, lively music, capturing fireflies, wandering along a StoryWalk, and of course, free South Mountain Creamery ice cream.

Staff from The Blue Ridge Center Wildlife Center will also be on hand with live birds of prey.

Join us rain or shine, but please leave your pets at home. Come and stay as long as you like, but don’t forget to bring a refillable water bottle and insect repellent. All fees are non-refundable.
