Join Deana for Nature Journaling!
PVAS Hosts: Deana Thorsell
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required and limited to 12 participants.
Don’t be afraid to try it! Nature journaling is recording our observations, thoughts, and questions about nature using a combination through drawing, writing and numbers. By using all our senses, we begin to see things that we’ve never noticed before, hear new things, feel what is going on around us (feeling the wind or sun upon your face or touching the barks of various trees), smell our surroundings. We are making connections about our environment, plants and animals around us and recording our thoughts, questions or feelings in our personal journal to grow and learn along the way.
We’ll enjoy the wetlands, stroll amongst some of the oldest trees in the area, and we’ll have our eyes open for autumn birds, grasses and flowers in seed. If we are lucky, we’ll catch the Ginkgo Grove undergoing a magical transformation as the leaves transition from green to gold as we explore this beautiful property filled with history.
Come with your nature journal supplies, a chair (if you’d like), and water. We’ll meet near the parking lot to share prompts and say hello, meander the trails walk through the trees at our own pace, and eventually return again to the same spot to add details to our work and share inspiration.
Whether you’ve been keeping journals for years, or a budding beginner, we welcome you to come out and put pencil to paper in the company of other enthusiasts. Bring your journal, any supplies you prefer, and an open mind to trying new materials and techniques.
