Fall Native Plant Sale
Saturday, September 21 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Join us for our Fall Native Plant and Bird Seed Sale at our partner location, Sunny Meadows Garden Center. We will feature fall nectar plants for pollinators, shrubs, and trees for wildlife, and of course MILKWEED for monarchs!
This fundraiser supports the environmental activities of PVAS and TMA. In addition, your purchases also help support TMA’s Monarch Waystation Grant Program that provides over $3,000 worth of native plants to community projects each year.
Representatives from both PVAS and TMA will be on hand to talk to you about monarchs, other pollinators, the monarch’s amazing annual migration, and our activities.
Special plant presentation plus Q&A session from local experts Ann Aldrich and Bob Schwartz at 9:00am!
Also be sure to check out our 43rd Annual Bird Seed Sale at Sunny Meadows on September 21!
Ann received her B.S. in Botany from University of Michigan, spent decades with the Bureau of Land Management, rising from a Field Botanist to various management positions. Ann earned her Master’s in Sustainable Landscape Design from George Washington University, after which she taught the native plants classes in the Sustainable Landscape Design master’s program. She has worked over 10 years with the Dumbarton Oaks Parks Conservancy in Washington D.C. to restore Beatrix Farrand’s wild garden. Ann is now retired and is a Washington County Master Gardener, mentoring aspiring gardeners in the use of native plants, while working to restore her own 34 acres of forest and savanna near Hagerstown, MD.
Bob Schwartz holds a M.Sc. in Global Change Biology from Hood College and a B.Sc. in Forest Science/Political Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He is a certified Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional, ISA Certified Arborist, and a Maryland Licensed Forester. Bob works for the Maryland Forest Service as the Western Watershed Forester, focusing on forest restoration and cooperative stewardship projects, with previous work experience in prairie/savanna restoration with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. While his love of native plants originated in the prairies and savannas of the Midwest, it has expanded to the unique plants that characterize the east coast, facilitated by wonderful mentors who have deepened his knowledge and appreciation for our local ecosystems.
