Teen Photography/Video Camps

Digital Nature Photography Camp

Nature Photo Camp at Shepherd University

PVAS holds a one-week nature photography camp for ten high school students each summer. Participants learn the fundamentals of digital nature photography and image editing. Using Nikon digital cameras that PVAS provides, high school students capture images of nature, wildlife, and natural resources in the areas in and around Shepherdstown, WV.  (Some images taken by past campers are posted below.)

The program takes advantage of the natural and cultural heritage of the Shepherdstown area by visiting and photographing areas such as the C&O Canal, Town Run, the riverfront in Shepherdstown, the Potomac River, and other sites in and around the area.

The experience is balanced with technical computer skills by having students learn how to  manage and edit their images using a computer lab with free downloadable software. Each student is sent home with all of the images he/she captured over the week.

Conservation Video Camp at Shepherd University

New in 2018!  A new collaboration with the American Conservation Film Festival and Shepherd University will encourage high school students to learn the art and technique of making videos about conservation and the environment.  Tools, supplies, instruction, equipment, and field experiences will be provided so that each participant can create a short, conservation-themed movie.  No experience is required!

Campers will use iPad and iMovie software which will be provided if needed. (Campers can use their own equipment if they already have it.)  After a week of fun and learning, campers will enjoy a reception for family and friends and a screening of their films.  Each student retains ownership of all the video images and final product that they create during the week.
