Join us for a day of maintenance day at Yankauer Nature Preserve! Learn how to identify spring wildflowers and their non-native weedy competitors. Learn how to best remove these undesirable weeds to protect and preserve native species. We'll work together to accomplish trail clearing and invasive species removal in preparation for Spring events at Yankauer. Gather among friends for some hot coffee, cocoa, tea and cookies while we complete some trail maintenance work at Yankauer Nature Preserve.
Yankauer Nature Preserve protects native habitat for local flora and fauna, and is a favorite local area for hiking and birdwatching in Berkeley County. Maintenance work and invasive species removal is necessary to promote high quality native habitat at Yankauer Nature Preserve. Your help is appreciated as we work together to clear invasive species and enhance habitat for local wildlife. Every pair of hands helps make a difference!
All necessary training, tools, gloves will be provided. Light refreshments will also be available. Yankauer Nature Preserve has bathrooms and water will be available to refill water bottles.
We will be learning about invasive plants that are commonly seen in the spring, how to identify them, how they impact our native habitats and what techniques best control them. Informational handouts will be supplied, and then we will hit the trails in guided groups and get to work removing invasive plants.
