What: Bird Watching Field Trip

Where: Cranesville Swamp Preserve in Terra Alta, WV and Cooper's Rock State Forest

When: Saturday, May 27th, 2017

Time: Meet in Shepherdstown's Food Lion parking lot* at 5:45 a.m., returning at 5:30 p.m.

Cost: Free (donations accepted for Birdathon)

Join PVAS and the Mountaineer Audubon group on a field trip to Cranesville Swamp Preserve and Cooper's Rock State Forest. The field trip will take place on Saturday, May 27th. This trip will be a grand finale for our month-long Ruth Ann Dean Birdathon in May. 

The group will meet at 5:45 a.m at the Food Lion parking lot in Shepherdstown and will be leaving at 6 am.. 

*Depending on where people are driving from, we may designate a second meeting location that is convenient for people from other locations. 

Participants can choose to drive alone or car pool from Shepherdstown to Cranesville Swamp Preserve in Terra Alta, WV. Carpooling is suggested as parking is limited at both sites.

Trip itinerary: 

6am: Leave from 

8am: Meet LeJay G. at West Hazleton Rest Stop on I-68 (adress: 31097 I-68, Bruceton Mills, WV 26525)

9am: Arrive at Cranesville Swamp Natural Area (Terra Alta, WV)  Birdwatching and walking with our guides; David Daniels and LeJay Graffious from Mountaineer Audubon

11:30pm: Leave Cranesville SwampDrive to Cooper's Rock State Forest (Eastern, WV)

12:00: Arrive at Coopers Rock State Forest. Have bag lunch and use restrooms

12:30-3pm: Hike up to the lookout and birdwatch

5:30pm: Arrive back home in Jefferson/Berkeley County

Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of your birding skills, however preregistration is required. 

Lunch will be on your own. Please pack a lunch and bring along drinking water.

Please dress for the weather and please bring along binoculars, if you have them. Binoculars will be available to those that need them.
